Kedleston Hall – Before the Snow.

Kedleston Hall is our absolute favourite National Trust property. Being only 30 minutes away we have probably been there in each season, but never in the snow. This last trip we missed the white magic. By. One. Day – ‘devastated’ is an enormous understatement.

Nonetheless it lived up to its usual glorious standard and we were next to alone, the pre-flurry weather keeping most sane people away, which gave it a real sense of homeliness (as much as that is possible at an 18th Century Mansion).

We even had a little guest, brave enough to join us for our picnic lunch. P and G rewarded him generously for his courage!

The sky had that unmistakeable white glow that it gets just before the snowflakes fall and despite two pairs of socks and wellies, I was convinced they would have to amputate after our short walk over the grounds.

Still having them in my possession, I’ve crossed all my fingers and toes for another snow day this year (sorry-not-sorry all you snow-haters) that will necessitate a quick dash back to our dear Kedleston, sledge under one arm and unbridled enthusiasm under the other!

Until then,
